The main thing that paying the minimum monthly payment instead of paying in full if you can is that you’ll end up paying interest on the remaining balance. A credit card statement now has to show how long it would take to pay your balance off and how much it would end up costing you (including the interest). Paying only the minimum payment can take years and hundreds or even thousands of dollars depending on the size of the balance.

Your best bet is to always pay your balance in full every month. Credit score is only concerned with your payment history (do you always pay on time, etc) and you don’t get bonus points for carrying balances or paying interest.

Let’s say have 5 credit cards each worth $ 2,000 each. That means your credit card value total is $ 10,000. So if you owe $ 1,000 to a credit card then you are 10% in debt. The less you are in debt the better your credit score is. If I had all of those credit cards I would keep them. If you get rid of 4 credit cards then your value is worth $ 2,000. That means you are in 50% debt, and that means your credit score goes way down!! That’s a bad thing

Is it possible to get a mortgage with no money down and not good credit?

Question by magrl73:
Is it possible to get a mortgage with no money down and not good credit?
I’ve heard so many different things about getting a mortgage today, that it’s almost impossible unless you have perfect credit. If you don’t have perfect credit, you need a ton of money down. What is a good enough credit score to get a decent rate? I would like to try and buy this summer, but I’m not sure if it’s possible if things are that difficult.

sure it’s possible why do you think the US housing and mortgage lenders are in such a mess these days. For extending credit to people who don’t have money at no interest rate and now…… they are paying. The industry will probably get tougher because of all the defaulted mortgages these days and banks that are calling in loans. Do it the better way.
Get a down payment together, save yr money and that’s a far better way to get a mortgage.. believe me!

Is it bad or good for my credit score to take a personal loan?

Question by Finn334:
Is it bad or good for my credit score to take a personal loan?
Is it bad or good for my credit score to take a personal loan? Of course, I’m going to pay in time. And pay it out even earlier than in 1 or 2 years or whatever I’ll take it.
I have a US credit history for about 2.5 years only – I’ve just moved to the US.

it may not change either way at first. If you don’t have much credit and you take out a new loan, it could actually cause it to go up slightly, but don’t expect major change either way until you’ve made about six months of payments, then it should help.
