How is the free on-line credit report at Experian supposed to work?
I accessed Experian through www.annualcreditreport.com, which is supposed to be the only authorized site to go through, filled out Experian’s on-line application and on the final screen there was only a graphic with the text “One Time Offer – only Equifax offers your FICO score at the lowest price available… View your FICO credit score once with your credit disclosure request for just $ 7.95 (with a button saying “See my score once”) / Get two in depth FICO score reports and stay updated on important changes to your score with Score Watch for just $ 7.95 per month. (a button saying “Keep my updated on my score”)
There was no indication of where to click to see the free credit score and no choice offered to have it mailed out.
Is that normal? What happened here?

I’ve never know of that site to offer a FREE credit score. Only to view your credit report once a year for free.

a lot of them are free, but you also get a free one month subscription to something, but when that one month is up, and you forget to unsubscribe to that free service before you get charged, bend over

Go to annualcreditreport.com. They allow you to get one free credit report each year from each of the three credit agencies, Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian. I used this site a couple months ago and got my credit report immediately. I would highly recommend this site.

I turned 18 in november and wanted to double check my credit is untouched because we had a identity theft scare when I was younger where the man has a hold of my SSN. I put in the information and these are the messages I recieved:

No Record Found

We cannot obtain your Personal Credit Report information.

What happened:

The system was unable to retrieve your Personal Credit Report.

Explanations:

We do not have a record that matches the information you entered on the order form. It’s possible that we do not have your current information if your personal information (name, SSN, address) has changed recently. Please order your credit report by phone or mail.

Equifax:
We’re sorry, for your protection we are unable to deliver your FACT Act Equifax Free Annual Credit Report on the internet. There are a number of reasons that we may be unable to fulfill your request online. You may have a Security Freeze on your credit file, an Active Duty Military or Fraud Alert, or the identification information submitted online may not match the information on file.
The following link will lead you to a form that is not screen-readable at this time. However, this form is not required to request your free Equifax credit report by mail. Please send your name, current address, former address, and social security number, along with any documents described below, to the following address: Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. It’s likely that you may not HAVE any credit history. Just follow the instructions at http://www.annualcreditreport.com to print the request form. Fill it out and mail it in – you’ll get your reports in 10-14 days.

I’ve tried a few websites, but whenever I fill out my info, they end up asking me for my credit card info. Which means, they’ll probably take away money. I want it to be free. I don’t want it to be free for 30-60 days then pay. Does anyone know what I mean? If so, please help me find a website where people can check their credit report without having to worry about making any payments for it. Thank you.

Go directly to the 3 credit reporting companies, Trans Union, Equifax and Experian. You can get a copy free once a year from them. If you want it more often, you have to pay, but you can deal directly with them, no middleman.
